The technology only gets better and smarter, with the latest entrants in the market, rightly called the smartphones!  BlackBerry, iPhone, Google’s Android phone and many more such hi-tech phones, all part of this family have become man’s one stop shop for various tasks. An astounding range of applications are available which can be downloaded into the smartphones, transforming them into power packed little gadgets! Let say hello to some of the apps that would make your adventure around Bangalore or across the Globe safer.

Google Maps: The most popular travel app is without doubt the Google Maps, that comes in built on every smartphone. Giving you details of where exactly you are, where you can find whatever place you are looking for and the distance as well as the directions to get there. Google maps can also be used to look for specific shops or destination nearby to where you currently are or to any location. You can almost never get lost if armed with this app, but of course, your phone must be up and running in order to utilize any of the apps.

WeatherBug: Getting to know the weather condition while travelling is very important, in order to plan accordingly. Most smartphones come with an inbuilt weather app. However, WeatherBug is an app that is compatible across all range of OSa like Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Mobile and Nokia. This app gives an exhaustive weather report of any place.

TripAdvisor and TripIt: These are two apps for smartphones that aid in planning and organizing your travel places. They are what can be termed as ‘travel management apps’ which keep a track of everything from flight reservation numbers, hotel confirmation details and other important travel details.

BePut: Letting friends and relatives your whereabouts while on a trip is important for them to keep a track of you. BePut helps you do just that! This app simply identifies your exact current location and sends the details to a recipient of your choice through emails or text messages. In case of emergencies or if lost, this app may just save your life!

Google SMS: A relatively lesser popular but highly useful mobile app for smartphones is Google SMS. On occasions when the phone’s data plans do not work and the other sophisticated apps cannot be used, this app comes to the rescue. By just texting some search items to ‘46645’ (which stands for GOOGL) you get back search results as a series of text messages!
